Evil business versus Nazism

The HBR Editor’s Blog has an interesting discussion about whether you can actually brand business as evil? The key quote from the article is this:

The problem with accusing a business of evil is that the behavior of an enterprise is collective, consisting of so many individuals, engaged daily in myriad acts of omission and commission, that it is virtually impossible to fix moral accountability in a meaningful way.

Try replacing ‘business’ with ‘The Third Reich’ and ‘enterprise’ with ‘the state’, and to me you have a very similar story, where we weren’t in any doubt. And thus a solid argument for why excessive capitalism can indeed be evil on ordinary people.

My pictures now on NowPublic.com

A series of photos I took when flying over Greenland on the way to Seattle has made it to a story about the melting ice on Greenland on citizen journalism site, NowPublic.com.

I’m thrilled about this. Not only do I like the shots, I took. It was so beautiful. But I also get to contribute to a great service and help put emphasis on an important cause: Global warming.

It feels great!

Mecom’s story with a big American twist?

Mark Potts have a great piece about Tribune Co., it’s owner Sam Zell and all the internal turmoil at the newspaper group being brought about by a troubled economy, massive loads of debt and an owner, which most employees love to hate.

When I read the piece, I realized that the reason I enjoyed it so much, was because of the striking similarities with Mecom and it’s owner/chairman, David Montgomery. You can pretty much make a direct substitution - Tribune Co. for Mecom and Sam Zell for David Montgomery.

Now, why is it sometimes hard to concentrate?

Nick Pagan knows why. It’s because multitasking does more damage to your IQ than smoking pot!

Whoever said it should be possible to keep a lot of balls in the air at the same time should think hard about this and perhaps revise position.

Flickr fascination with ribs

I continue to be fascinated by the world of Flickr and the sharing and caring that goes on there.

This morning, when I locked into my account, I found a message from an admin of a group dedicated to bar-b-que ribs. He wanted to know if I would post a photo of some ribs, I had cooked on the grill, to their group.

Of course I did, and it turned out this group is almost 200 strong. It’s really amazing. How would people ever get together around this interest, if it wasn’t for services such as Flickr?

But will the battery last?

‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ looks like a cool game for the iPhone indeed. But still I’m wondering: With all the talk about very bad battery time on the new iPhone 3G, excactly how long would you be able to play this game, before the phone dies on you?
